New Employment Laws for 2016
It's that magical time of the year again! Time to review the new employment laws for 2016. The governor has signed or vetoed any employment related bills from the 2015 legislative session. Governor Brown signed 808 bills this year and vetoed 133 others.
As usual, several new employment laws will affect California employers’ operations and practices in 2016. Some of the new laws make important changes to existing state law. Other new laws make small changes to different parts of existing law or may only affect certain employers, such as those with piece rate workers.
Also don’t forget that the minimum wage increases on January 1, 2016 to $10 per hour — this is not a new law (it was signed in 2013), but this is the last mandatory increase from that law.
Unless specified, all new legislation goes into effect on January 1, 2016.
