CALTRANS SHARES SMALL BUSINESS WEBINARS ON YOUTUBE

BIG NEWS FOR SMALL BUSINESS

We’re seeing a record number of public works contracts go out for bid in the Central Coast. There’s a lot of work available here and in the rest of the state. For many, the question is, “How does a local firm prepare to enter the contracting world”?

To answer that question, Caltrans collaborated with neighboring districts and agencies to identify areas that small firms really struggle with when working on public works contracts. This year’s lineup of small business webinars developed out of those identified needs.

Caltrans is offering small business webinars geared for contractors, subcontractors, consultants and public works suppliers. This year’s outreach will provide an overview of the contracting process with the goal of fostering more diverse, project-ready certified firms. Topics include bonding and insurance requirements, where to find advertised contracts, best practices in estimation and working with primes, labor compliance and certified payroll, and an understanding of prompt payment and the post-bid timeline. The goal is to provide an overview of what is required to successfully deliver on a contract with the State.

Now more than ever, we need public works firms who are ready, willing and able to help us restore and repair our transportation system. We believe in a level playing field, where every business has the same opportunity to participate in state contracts and procurement. Help keep jobs here in our community by sharing this information with your friends and colleagues.
