On September 10, 2014, California became the second state in the nation, after Connec?ticut, to provide paid sick leave when Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. signed AB 1522, the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014 (the Act).
Employers mu?st begin providing the paid sick leave benefit starting July 1, 2015. Other require?ments, such as posting and notice obligations, took effect January 1, 2015. Other adjustments (including CalChamber-suggested changes) went into effect on July 13, 2015.

Rx for Paid Sick Leave: Amendments Effective Immediately
(July 14, 2015) On July 13, 2015, the Legislature passed “clean up” amendments to the paid sick leave law—the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014. The governor signed these amendments, and they are effective immediately.
